Health informatics is an emerging field. This is one of my own central areas of research within the bounds of its use by public health practice agencies. What are top three innovations in health informatics in general?
I will partially agree Hamad Hadrawi ; the health informatics also include IT innovations in public health (not just healthcare); public health uses those innovations for population health management and improvement. What are the top three innovations in the field?
I like the American Medical Informatics Association definition of biomedical informatics (includes health informatics) - Article AMIA Board white paper: Definition of biomedical informatics...
The definition refers to an interdisciplinary field that studies how data and information are used to improve human health. It also emphasizes that informatics is more than just applying technology to health problems.
Health informatics is about sharing information to make health care more efficient and effective. Top innovations are (1) identifiers for health concepts (e.g. SNOMED CT), (2) interoperable API standards (e.g. FHIR) and (3) digital privacy and access control (OAUTH etc).
Health informatics is an interdisciplinary field that makes use of ICT innovations to improve and support the provision of healthcare. This includes health data exchange, standardization, analysis, healthcare information systems integration, healthcare processes support and coordination, Personal Health Records, securing healthcare data and many other. As current top innovation I would suggest artificial intelligence in heatlhcare.
