In Norway there exists two doctoral degrees: the normal PhD degree and the degree of Dr. Philos. (doctor philosophiae). The last mentioned, the Dr.Philos. degree in Norway may be conferred on graduates who have qualified for a doctoral degree on their own, without formal research training. The candidates write the thesis without supervision, and have no connection with the university as a doctoral candidate until a faculty has approved their application for admission to the Dr. Philos. examination. The two doctoral degrees are in Norway considered to be of equal academic value. Which doctoral degrees similar to the Norwegian Dr.Philos degree exist internationally, preferably in medicine?
In Armenia in general, and in medicine respectively ,exists two scientific degrees: first is equivalent to international PhD, it will done under supervision ;the second one which will be defenced only after PhD -is Doctor of Science( instead of superviser will be scientific adviser ) for Medicine it is named D of Science in Medicine. This one is the highest academic degree.
As I know similar scientific degrees exist in the countries from Former Soviet Union - Russia, Ukraine , Belarus, etc.

In Australia, the PhD is a Doctorate of Philosophy and is undertaken with supervision, no course work, but is a research degree. Other Doctorate degrees are undertaken as a higher academic award for other disciplines eg science, medicine etc.
There is not like this in Brazil. There exist only traditional PhD programs.
The Norwegian Dr.Philos. degree seems to be special, because you don't need a PhD from earlier. Dr.Philos. and PhD are considered to be of equal academic value.
Mr. Bjorklund, in Bulgarian educational system has something similar to the discussed academic and scientific degree, but it is not equal to the PhD (doctor of philosophy) one.
First the candidates for the PhD students are examinated with ageneral exam, which is independent entry examination. After that they prepare a thesis without supervision and formal research training (like in Norway's system). The presentation of this tetmorary thesis is public, and has examination heavity. If it is successful only, the PhD student start the essencial research on their official PhD thesis.
During the PhD research, the candidate also is examinated each year on the temporary results on his/her work.
When the experimental research on it finish (usually after 3 years), including the publishing of the data obtained, which is obligatory step, the PhD students present a two consequent short thesis on the essencial work, as well as a full version (completed) on his/her results (final thesis, dissertation).
Then follow the essencial thesis presentation, which is also public examination. If it is successful, that the candidate received the PhD degree. The latter one is officially accepted. The 'themporary thesis' is not official doctoral degree, but is obligatory as a part of common PhD education and research. This temporary thesis is not obligatory based on the own scientific active and publications of the candidate. In contrast to the final one. This temporary thesis may replace with a public examination. The latter one however is very heavy, and usually covers large sets of scientific areas of knowledge in variety of fields related the PhD thema. For this reasons, the students prefer namelly the temporary thesis-form as examinating one. Therefore, it has something common in the Norway's system and in Bulgarian's one.
