No Brasil, acho que em todas as classes sociais, é comum se automedicar. está errado, claro, mas as mulheres tem cólicas mensais e seus remédios preferidos. Em cada casa existe uma farmacinha doméstica. O normal é comprar o que o médico já passou antes, para as mesmas dores, em dias passados.

It’s a combination of factors , not necessarily one major factor can explain this health seeking behaviour. Self medication may be common among even health professional, most especially due to familiarity of symptoms and sometimes a previous negative experience going through the health system to seek care.
among non health professionals it could be largely due to socio-economic factors and also due to accessibility to over the counter medications.
