I'd love to have some opinions from lecturers/ researchers in Animal behaviour/ behavioural ecology on the state of modern textbooks. While I appreciate the breadth of coverage in introductory textbooks (e.g. Alcock, Dugatkin), I feel some things are missing. In particular, I've never found a textbook with an explicit lab/tutorial component (common in introductory Biology textbooks). Also, I'm struggling to find "real world" connections for my students. Dugatkin's book appears exceptional in having "conservation connection" sections. What is your opinion/ experience? What are you looking for in Animal Behaviour textbooks, that you can't currently find?
