Speaking about the benefits and disadvantages of public transport many responded that the most annoying things about this service are waiting time (frequency), the accessibility of the transport (especially for people with disability) and the number of transfers. My question is: What could be the solution to all these problems? We don't want to use private cars since that would lead to a traffic problem (which we want to avoid). Have you heard of any "collective transport 2.0" that could improve the existing one?

In my opinion, it's important for the waiting time problem to use the transportation intelligent system and to manage this last optimally to respect the timetable ( more regularity), this to have an efficient Public Transport which can reduce the traffic congestion by attracting more users..

One of the main problem is large and medium-sized cities is the periphery to periphery journey. In order to improve the attractiveness of Pu lic transit, we could develop sutthle to urabn rail coupled with circum-radial transit possibilities. As the traffic flows considered would not be very important some small vehicles electriciry powered and without driver lines could be planned. One of the major difficulties would be to offer parking places close to the public transit stations..
The issue you propose is important, since the existence of an efficient public transportation is essential for the improvement of mobility and fluidity of land traffic. In this sense, and in relation to the issue of waiting time, it is important to achieve that public transportation adjusts to fixed schedules, and that such schedules are established in the most realistic way, since sometimes people know beforehand that they will not stick to the set time, which can logically bother users. Also, in those cases where it is difficult to establish fixed schedules, an app could be created that the user can have in his/her cellphone, and that will check in real time where public vehicles are, and therefore exactly indicate the time that the user will have to wait. This could also reduce the problem of transfers, since users would be able to establish their routes beforehand, and therefore adjust to the already existing transportations, thus reducing the waiting time between one and the other. Lastly, in relation to accessibility, it is necessary to provide enough measures so that any person, regardless of their conditions, may be able to access the vehicles. This function must be a responsibility of the very same managers of public transportation.
Dear Valentina, I could suggest you to take a look at the multimodal approach in finding the mobility solution you are looking for. The term "collective transport 2.0" is not useful. Please try to find a practical approach beside: transportation policy, car manufacturer marketing and interest groups lobbying.

I agree with Mouloud Khelf , use of ITS (Intelligent Transp. Systems) for public transportation especially information systems and apps for mobile phone may be helpful for waiting time and transfer problems. On the other hand, driverless public or collective transport systems that use special lanes would be supportive.
First of all, I want to thank you for sharing your knowledge. I'm currently trying to develop a thesis for my Master's Degree concerning the use of ITS, already mentioned by Mouloud Khelf. I'll try to explain what I meant with the term "Collective transport 2.0", so tell me if this is clearer to you Wilhelm Jakob Hermann: my goal is to find out how people could move in the future with collective ITS. This includes not only those vehicles that are electric and connected but also vehicles that could potentially serve many people. The problem is exactly what Francisco Alonso addressed. I'm currently working for an Italian start-up (Next Future Transportation inc., if you're interested) which develops modular vehicles so that they can dock and undock on the go and passengers can redistribute themselves inside.
My goal is to see if there are other options currently available that allow a transfer "on the go". This would solve the problem of multimodal transport since passengers can travel from origin to destination without changing the vehicle.

In my opinion, multimodal integration is very crucial for collective transport. That means, both modal and functional integration. For instance, transfer areas between modes should be convenient and easy and integration of time-tables (also integrated ticketing to minimize troubles of purchasing tickets) to minimize waiting time and thus enhance travel experience. Obviously you need improved ICT for better collective transport. You may find several of my research on integrated multimodal transport.
