As many of you know, MOOCs are courses online, free of charge that are offered through different platforms like Coursera, Edx and Udacity, among others. Just to give an idea of their increasing importance very recently (October 3, 2013) Edx has signed an agreement with the French Ministry of Higher Education to create a national online learning portal which will offer Edx cutting edge online education to French students. Both Coursera and Edx offer medical or medical-related courses.
Despite the clear benefits of MOOCs, some believe that they may end devaluing higher education. Some of the concerns about MOOCs are that they can’t provide an intimate experience such as the one offered by the traditional classroom courses. There are also concerns about academic dishonesty.
