Schizofrenia is a psychiatric disease, autism is a disorder (developmental one). There is no relation at all. The criteria for diagnosing are completely different. Asking this question proves a lack of knowledge of ASD. I suggest you read Simon Baron Cohen or Tony Attwood. Check DSM too!
Dear Lode Goukens thank you for your contribution. I know very well the difference between schizophrenia and autism in clinical psychology and psychiatry, I read DSM3, 4 and 5. But I am seeking out the difference in psychoanalysis; some psychoanalysts think that autism can be developed to Schizophrenia and some others think that autism is a subjective position in Psychosis.
in order to develop that line of research maybe you should focus on the comorbidity research such as depression, hoarding disorder, HSP... As far as I know there is very little comorbidity with psychosis, bipolar, schizofrenia etc. Another line of inquiry could be age.
"Together, these studies highlight the importance of examining gene expression from the primary tissue involved in neuropsychiatric conditions-the cortical brain. We identify a shared role for altered neurotransmission and synapse regulation in AUT and SCZ, in addition to two genes that may more generally contribute to neurodevelopmental and neuropsychiatric conditions. Autism is the central clinical phenomena in classical manifestations of Schizophrenias (Eugen Bleuler, 1911. - 4 A).
Autistic syndromas by children are multifactorial (dysgenesis, birth trauma, early encephalitis, hearing defect, ect, ect.), and by other illnesses o brain and body, too.
Maybe schizophrenia and autism are parts of the same spectrum of disease based on connectopathy? In case of autism it is more restricted to salience network/ disruption of von Economo networks, but in case of schizophrenia lesions are more global?
