I would also recommend coursera. I took a writing in science course that was excellent.

As an On-line lecturer, I can recommend the process as a means of learning while still retaining your position in the work-force. Students of our program do this for many reasons: improvement of qualifications for promotion, self improvement, improvement for job seeking and so on. The interface on the internet is now so fast that some on-line programs are now global. While some classroom (face-to-face) teaching opportunities are not possible, there is plenty of scope for interaction. In brief, I love on-line education.

What benefits this free courses give to host institutions? I can not believe that this happens just for education:))

By offering on-line courses, the host institution expands it's potential student-pool beyond the formal geographic boundaries of a brick-and-mortar university, greatly increasing its audience.

Thank you very much for all your valuable answers! In my opinion, many of us will agree that online courses play a massive role in nowadays education. Online studying has many advantages and the most important one is that online courses are free and available for thousands of people around the globe! Many of graduates can't afford another courses or training because not only of financial aspects, but because of time, family and jobs. Online learning gives use possibility to spent 5-10 hours a week and stay open minded and updated with the newest research and knowledge! Personally, I encourage many of my friends and students to take extra online training. Anyone who can share portals with online learning please do so!
