I am a junior engineering student and I have to make a final year project and present it in may. The thing is I know I'll be working on a smart factory related project using IoT techniques and because smart factory is a huge project I need your recommendation for a smart-factory-related relatively small project that I can accomplish in nearly 5 months knowing that I am a student so I don't really have that much of free time (I can provide around 6 hours a week in average). So as you can see I really need the advice of an expert to guide me according to the time I have and amount of programming skills I can learn in such a period of time. Finally, I want to highlight that I am currently a beginner in C++ and I will be learning it all year long and boost my skills throughout the year.

I understood Final year to mean Bachelor. and I understood 'low cost" to mean budget is limited.
based on the above, I will suggest you go the option of IoT Characteristics Classification or anomaly detection or pattern recognition of smart IoT sensors in Smart factory scenario.
since you have cost and budget limitation, you will avoid building hardware and devote more on getting datasets free from "github" or "IEEE Data Port" I can use my account to get free for you. With that, all you can do is to learn Machine learning.
