Documentary: Collective Injustice

First Book: The Tale of an Egyptian with an American Passport

From Egypt, the land of the Delta and the Pyramids, the land of history and civilizations, ramified and extended over time, I came to reside in the land of dreams and the symbol of freedom, the United States of America. I came motivated by the love of science and the advancement of humanity, as they represent a common factor in both great countries. I came carrying the bag of science to participate in transferring and adding some knowledge and human heritage from the Nile to the Mississippi. I came having in my heart the bright, authentic face of Egypt and the developed and civilized features of the United States of America. But unfortunately, throughout my scientific career, I have faced and continue to face collective injustice without justification from many individuals and legal parties since August 2002 until now.

Chapter 04:

Gilda Pour's Tragedy

In the following lines, I will tell you about the real tragedy that happened to a professor working with us at the university, especially in the computer engineering department, who was of Iranian origin. Her name is Gilda Pour, and she is a great professor in the field of software engineering and has considerable research and ideas in her specialization. I met her before l worked at the university, precisely during my appointment interview. I was surprised that she advised me to move away from this university and not work there. Yet, I had to work at this university after joining other universities. To my astonishment and great shock, Gilda cried out her heart in front of me. When I asked her why, she told me that the people at the university had ill-treated her in a racist manner; she warned me against dealing with these people, meaning those university professors waiting for every opportunity to degrade her scientific value and crudely mock her ideas on a non-scientific basis. The ill-treatment put her in an awful psychological state and made her less confident. I consider it one of the worst types of injustice. Psychological abuse is often more substantial than physical abuse. To add insult to injury, they were not allowing her to respond or defend her ideas and opinions. All of this was in a lofty scientific place that was supposed to appreciate the value of people who have talents given to them by God to serve humanity. I was on her side a lot, but to no avail, and nobody listened. All my attempts to protect and support her went unheeded. They did not consider my responses in defense of her. Since I often listened to her and sympathized with her, and because of my feelings for her, since I was also suffering from what she was suffering, she often felt comfortable talking to me and telling me about her suffering in dealing with those in her specialization. I used to hear from her while my heart broke because of the tragedy she was going through. After I had worked at this university for a while, I discovered later that this woman had gone through complicated circumstances. They were talking about her very absurdly, making her a subject of ridicule and describing her as having a weak personality. However, she presented excellent research worthy of all respect and appreciation. Moreover, she often attended university meetings and performed her work to the fullest, which aroused my astonishment and wonder. So, what do one's talents, abilities, skills, and academic qualifications have to do with aspects of one's personal life, religious belief, or nationality?! What is this superficial view of man? How long will this backward, racist thought eat away at the human conscience like a mite? Where are the open minds due to science and modern discoveries? Up to this day, humanity thinks with a medieval or prehistoric mentality. What nonsense? How ridiculous! What kind of human beings are these? What a pity for humankind! With bitterness filling my throat, I say that all injustice that befell her was part of my torment in this section. It affected me to a great degree.

Furthermore, I was standing next to her out of a purely human motive to try to help her and ward off injustice from her. One day, she asked me to connect her with my lawyer to obtain her legal and moral rights. I did not know the exact details of what she was suffering from. However, it became clear from her conversation that she had severe psychological disorders because of working with them. One day, while asking about her, I discovered that this professor had disappeared forever. The curtain fell on her tragedy before all the episodes were completed. Therefore, until now, I have not known anything about her. I would like to know what happened to her, the secret of her disappearance, and how she had gone. Perhaps she disappeared according to her will because she could not continue to walk the path of thorns. Maybe she was under some threat or psychological pressure. In the end, she might have disappeared because of the people who never appreciate science or the status of scientists.
