I am a newbie to this. But, I regularly see that images of birefringent crystals or granules exhibit various colors. What do these colors tell us ? Does it have to do with the orientation or the crystallization type within the granule ?

Out of curiosity, I took a few images myself using a polarized microscope. My granules exhibit same color (some granules blue, whereas some granules totally yellow). I do not see the typical maltese cross in there. Any possible reason ?

Thanks in advance
