I recall an exchange of emails with Jean-Benoit Hardouin who wrote a Stata module to calculate delta (http://ideas.repec.org/c/boc/bocode/s456851.html) and we ended up agreeing that it didn't tell you much that you couldn't learn by eye.
I'd be curious to see if anyone has used it in real life.
