I prepared a miniature tensile sample of Electron Beam welded Hastealloy and carried out the tensile testing at 750 degrees. The sample showed serrations of Dynamic strain aging (DSA) after the necking had taken place but not before that. Qualitatively it appears that the material refuses to show DSA behaviour before necking but actively participates in this behavior post necking. What causes such a behaviour? In other words why is the material not showing DSA over the entire stress-strain curve. What prevents the material from showing this behaviour before necking?
