Each one has certain specific talent or expertise to do particular work. Apart from these, one may perform work through skill and continue with spark in approach, the others may not. For that, each one could identify inner talent and can properly judge their approaches. Hence, what are the ways and means to judge one's own talent or capabilities?
To my mind, it is important for one’s capabilities or talent to be judged in a fair, objective and measurable way.
This is easy to achieve with work based on number produced and meeting specified standards, which is found in the manufacturing sector.
However, complexity sets in when dealing with knowledge work. An executive may be given a series of KPIs to meet. This will involve both factors within and outside the control if the executive and the evaluation needs to consider such complexities to be acceptable.
Thus, in this day and age and to the extent possible, the 360 degree evaluation system is recommended.
A classic article in HBR few decades back mentioned about "Deeply Embedded Life Interests (DELIs)", where illustrations were given about few accomplished people in different fields, who left their fields and began pursuing their DELIs and changed their profession - a neurologist switching to teaching of kids etc., One's own real talents are hidden, what we display or bring out at the workplace are those which suits the job description or the role we are enacting. But once we get a context which resonates with our DELIs, then boom ... the results are amazing both for us as well as the organization. We get a kick out of what we do and we radiate positive energy and enthusiasm all around. Cole and Cole speak about "sacred spark theory", that each of us have a magical gland and once it is enlivened, then productivity, quality and innovation will be at their unimaginable levels.

In my view, Interest, keen observation and trying to know the concepts of each and everything are the means to judge one's own capabilities.
According to me, one should have further observations to judge his own talent such as 1. curiosity to learn something and to implement that gain knowledge into actual work, 2. social skill, and 3. adjustment with the surrounding.
