Hello , Presently am doing research in the area of power quality event classification and mitigation techniques. If anyone is aware of the recent techniques or combinations of transforms that can be efficient in identifying the power quality events. let me know whats presently going on.
Transformer can be heated by low quality power. Harmonic currents for instance can increase the heat and acuistic noise from the Transformer
Power Quality mostly depend on Voltage and Frequency. Good quality of power can be defined as a steady supply voltage that stays within the prescribed range. Now, power quality on power transmission side is directional proportional to the reactive power, because reactive power effects transmission voltage directly. To improve power quality, you use modern compensating FACTs device. And also study about it which gives more idea.
As a first step, I suggest to start with European norm EN 50160. In that norm, there are solid description for this power quality area. Maybe for wider audience you could clarify what you exactly mean. “combination of transforms” you mean some sorts of mathematical transforms or you targeting metering transformer for voltage and current. In norm EN 50160 exist levels for detecting any kind of events in power grid regarding to power quality.
I have not worked on this problem professionally, but for I my own entertainment I have thought about how to detect power-line events. The approach I would consider would be to look for changes in line frequency. By counting the number of cycles in a long interval (minutes), variations in frequency of a few parts per thousand can easily be made. If generating equipment were to drop off line, it seems likely that there would be a reduction in line frequency associated with the event. Using this method, there would be an obvious trade-off between sensitivity and time resolution. A possible improvement would be to compare line voltage phase with a reference, rather than just cycles.
One might define optimum power quality as a pure voltage sine wave at 50/60Hz at the nominal amplitude.
The Fourier Transform of the power line voltage would detect any deviations from the optimum as defined above.

Nowadays, the identification and mitigation of power quality (PQ) disturbances are very important issues for electric companies and industries. the proposed characteristics are extracted from the waveforms of the disturbances using S-transform (ST). Then, based on the values of these characteristics, the types of the disturbances are determined .
