Our model requires children with ASD to watch a stimulus on a screen while optical neuroimaging is taking place (fNIRS). Our cohort being young children on the autism spectrum, we would like to be able to track when a participant is not looking at the screen. This would not require software to track if the participant is staring at a specific place on the screen but rather if they are actually looking at the screen at all. What cheap options exist to fill our needs?

Gorilla.sc (https://gorilla.sc) might be a good solution for this! Gorilla is an online experiment builder that I have found really intuitive for running cognitive experiments. Importantly, Gorilla also has eye-tracking capabilities as it uses the webcam of a laptop/computer to track the eye movements of participants. Whilst it might not be the most fine-tuned method for eye-tracking, it could be really useful in this instance where you want to ascertain if they are looking at the screen or not.
