Friendly relations with students, that is including students in personal lives, must be avoided where possible but between adults this can happen and at graduate level has proved professionally productive. Differences in power and status between student and teacher make most relationships of that kind doubtful.
In teaching learning process better learning is not possible without good relationship. For undergraduate level teacher must be:
Guide
Motivator
Parent gardian
Friend.
To maintain friendly relations with students there must be very fine line which is challenging.
Good understanding of students problems at all levels is required. Teacher must know students phychology, there needs, motivational skills, power of encouragements.
In my opinion, proper gap between teacher and his students is necessary. Strictness with the students is for their benefit only, and it is realised by students in later years.
