I am planning to do my research in the area of Artificial Intelligence in the IT sector.
Now, the First problem I am facing is finding the logic/ relevance of studying AI in the IT sector. As AI has emerged as a result of IT professionals only.
So, will it be feasible to take the IT sector only? Seeing its impact on HR functions.
I think AI is not only emerging in the field of IT only. Many Machine Learning, Deep learning and NLP applying the AI techniques in its applications. So, AI is an emerging field in the research areas in the present scenario.

I agree with Prof. Subramanian that it is incorrect to say that AI has emerged as a result of IT professionals only. Look at the origin of Artificial Intelligence. We can think of the Turing Test. AI includes Machine Learning as a sub field, which further includes Deep Neural Networks. All these fields of research originated by researchers in the academic field.
However, coming to your interest, you can do research on Artificial Intelligence in IT sector. Robotics is a wonderful area which is involved in IT sector. Now even people are applying AI in developing drones.
The study of artificial intelligence to my mind started with polymaths like Aljaziri, Davinci and Bruno, although there are legends that the Ancient Greeks considered the idea of automatons long before that. My point is that I believe there were many steps along the road to the establishment of IT and AI that occurred well before there were names let alone mnemonics for such studies. But, how this helps in grasping the latest AI work in IT, in heuristic programming or at least coding for properties of consciousness is an interesting point to consider, as I think maybe you are.
