Teamwork is one of the most important components of non-technical skills in cardiopulmonary resuscitation. Efforts have been made more than two decades ago to clarify the dimensions of teamwork in a resuscitation situation. The purposes of this group are to share the experiences and knowledge of experts on the factors that influence teamwork, training programs or guides to promote teamwork, teamwork assessment tools, and teamwork barriers to resuscitation. I hope that by sharing teamwork knowledge and skills, we will play an important role in promoting the care of critically ill patients. so you can share your experiences, knowledge, and suggestions for improvement in CPR.
One of the best tools is immediately debriefing, whether after a mock code or a real one.
If structured debriefing is done properly, it can enhance team members skills and dynamics.
Frequent mock exercise improves familiarity with equipment, medicines, maneuvers, consequences; develop synchronicity and synergy.
Thanks to our colleagues who responded, we know that practicing in a standard simulated environment can greatly improve teamwork. And standardized debriefing is also very helpful after training. At present, there is an urgent need to have a tool for measuring teamwork. What tools do you know for measuring teamwork in resuscitation? What dimensions do you think is a matter for teamwork in resuscitation?

Firstly, key defined roles within the teams should be identified and staff independently recruited to those roles at the start of every shift within the hospital. This would comprise of every staff member being trained specifically for their appointed role and carry a crash team pager. The teams could respond to any cardiac arrest call and then quickly relieve the department staff to attend other patients to guard against draining resources from other patients. The teams would, by way of their appointment, be used to operating in an arrest situation and as such would have developed the dynamics necessary for a rapid and focused resuscitation exercise. As the teams would be otherwise supernumerary by appointment they would be able to conduct regular mock exercises and would contain the expertise within the teams to develop their own practices as specialists. The team could monitor their own performances in terms of response times, how the teams are mobilised, easily identifiable uniforms for each role, monitoring of clinical effectiveness within each role. This could then be evaluated following every resuscitation attempt by the team by way of debriefing. The results and findings of the debriefing can then be addressed in the way of further training scenarios to build on any identified areas of weakness. Again, if this was performed by appointed dedicated teams this would not be subject to the constraints of departmental pressures and allow for this specialist unit to work autonomously for such an important lifesaving role. The teams could be linked and monitored by joint specialisms from Anaesthetics, cardio-thoracic and Emergency heads that could meet on regular intervals to monitor the effectiveness of the teams in term of training and development.
