The beams are typically flat (aspect ratio of 10-100?) due to the flat electron beam source. So therefore more coherent vertically than horizontally. I'm trying to understand how well these beams can be used for the coherence experiments, and whether there is room for improvement or better understanding of this issue. Usually, the assumption of a thermal source is made, and coherence comes from Zernike-Van Cittert. But there may be cases where this assumption breaks down (small vertical beam size coming from undulators). (I work in the field of electron beam dynamics.)
