I am working on a research to look at the question of demand for BRT and how it is shaped by the urban environment (densities along the corridor, population characteristics, employment characteristics, etc.)
I think BRT is significantly lower infrastructure and operating costs and greater potential network flexibility. One book you can read call Bus rapid transit: a review of recent advances by Lloyd wright on 2011.

I presume you need individual opinions rather than literatures which you can search. Relative to the ways you can tie the BRT to Urban Planning and Dev..... The BRT is help reduce congestion and its effects, such as delay, pollution, productivity, fuel consumption, etc. The BRT at some point will link locations within the metropolitan areas to the central city through the major arterial roads, while having its own dedicated lane. It is effective in high density and transit oriented locations. As you may know, its introduction has always been to locations where there were existing developments with rapid growth and high traffic volume. It may be networked along its dedicated road so that it can be adjacent to minor arterials leading to shopping mall or collector street for more passengers to get on the bus, as well as the edge cities whereby those living in the suburbs can park and ride or take taxis to the designated bus stop. The bottom line is that the stops must be adequately spaced with reasonable schedule and trip time to trade off the need of driving by passengers who own automobiles, as well as overrun benefit of reducing congestion to the public. For sustainability, the land use control must be effective along the BRT corridor, enforcement on violation of BRT lanes by other motorists, provide comfortable buses, affordable rides and higher cost of automobile use to owners which include licensing, tolls, fuel cost etc.
