Now, we have many ICT tools to facilitate our teaching and research processes. I believe that we need to be reasonably versatile at using these tools. Even though we are not trained in IT, we need to spend some time to learn. We cannot afford to be too far behind our learners of the Y-generation who are born in a new era, with computers in the home.
What do you think are the areas that we should change and grow to be relevant to our learners?

My answer is ICT has revolutionized the teaching and research process. I can say ICT brought education and research to such a platform where any one can start journey and can find his destination which was not possible earlier.

After analyzing over 3000 student evaluations across my university, there is clear evidence that students want access to materials 24/7 through virtual learning environments and that they find that the use of PowerPoint in lectures leads to lecturers simply reading their slides such that students wonder why they bother attending. So it is not the ICT per se but it's usage that needs our focus. So I would agree that we need to spend some time learning how to use ICT as an effective learning aid. This research was in one university and it would be interesting to hear about our institutions.
Let me start with an example:
Here in germany, nearly each 2 or 3 years they start to test a new system for school kids. In this context, my opinion is:
A good teacher within a "bad" system is much more better than a bad teacher teaching within a "good" system (what ever this may be).
Thus, an analog answer to the title of this thread (perhaps applicable to technical studies only) :
A "good" professor using old-fashioned methods ( chalk-and-blackboard teaching methods) is much better than a "bad" lecturer using all the modern ICT methods.
Don`t underestimate the effectiveness of a course, where the most important rules and equations (mathematical as well as electronical) are derived step-by-step, rather than provided, for example, by one slide only.
Summary: Our goal sholuld be a good and efficient trade-off between methods and teaching tools.

Today's world requires teachers with a great capacity to decide autonomously the content of what is taught and, of course, teaching mode. Since science and human values have lost their rigidity and uniformity that had in the past, flexibility is required to interpret the hybrid forms and changing shape as the knowledge and truths that are considered valid and legitimate for students to learn . The relativity of these truths and the need for today's students learn to respect different cultures and to judge and interpret the complexity of the modern world that the teachers should be trained and treated as professionals, with enough intelligence to decide and build pedagogical knowledge that expresses such diversity and complexity. Also, today's teacher should be a facilitator of knowledge building to promote autonomy and the ability to work in a context. Therefore, teacher training has to point to their creativity, their flexibility, their ability to choose and select what is relevant. This requires a much more structured teacher in relation to knowledge of the area that handles, educated, universal, deep and rigorous, to be updated constantly, investigate and documented as exhaustively as possible. For that you need a very high professional level and you have to advance postgraduate education and researcher.
