Theoretically it should be prospective randomized, controlled, double blinded trial but in reality is almost not possible. What is the end point before you can even calculate the sample size and design the study? How long are you going to follow the subjects? I have experienced so many changes in the education system in my home country. Every time they claimed the new system is better than previous ones but at the end they all failed. One thing is vital which is to keep all the family happy for your study. But, if you cannot guarantee the system can promise their children to be successful than there is always someone will criticize your study result. It is really not as easy as you expect. the field of educational research is not as easy as everyone thinks.
it has many avenues of research problems. every problem needs an experiment to solve it. but the appropriate experimental design for each problem is based on the cultural background of the subjects. kindly identify a problem then lets think of the design. action research is the good one i believe for educational research.
