I am looking for three theories that can best explain succession planning towards leadership. I am also looking for independent variables suggested by these theories, and how these variables can be used in developing objectives.
As a management student, there are several theories that can be used to explain succession planning towards leadership. These theories include Transformational Leadership Theory, Succession Planning Theory, and Social Learning Theory.
Transformational Leadership Theory suggests that leadership is a process of transforming individuals and organizations to achieve shared goals. Independent variables suggested by this theory include charismatic leadership, individualized consideration, intellectual stimulation, and inspirational motivation. These variables can be used in developing objectives by focusing on creating a vision and inspiring others to work towards it, providing individualized support and guidance, encouraging creativity and innovation, and motivating others to achieve their full potential.
Succession Planning Theory suggests that succession planning is a process of identifying, developing, and preparing individuals to fill key leadership roles within an organization. Independent variables suggested by this theory include talent identification, development and training, and succession readiness. These variables can be used in developing objectives by identifying key leadership roles within the organization, developing and training individuals to fill those roles, and ensuring that individuals are prepared and ready to step into leadership positions when needed.
Social Learning Theory suggests that individuals learn through observing and imitating the behavior of others. Independent variables suggested by this theory include role modeling, mentoring, and coaching. These variables can be used in developing objectives by providing opportunities for individuals to observe and learn from experienced leaders, establishing mentoring and coaching relationships, and providing opportunities for individuals to practice and develop their leadership skills.
