I would recommend reading -- probably graded readers that are written in language simple enough that the learner can easily understand. 

I know of a game used in improvised comedy that can be improvised for this purpose in the classroom. One particular relevant one is called "Hesitation" ( http://staffweb.hkbu.edu.hk/lianhee/IGFManual/Games/Hesitation/Framesethesitation.html )

There are other games that are useful for this purpose too, and also other purposes as well if you adapt them creatively.
