An eye tracker consists of camera, algorithms and a computing node. A device or computer equipped with an eye tracker “knows” what a user is looking at. Algorithms calculate eyes' position and gaze points.
What are the state of art algorithms, tools and approaches used for the eye tracker solutions?
What Benedikt Heusler refers to is STRICTLY eye-tracking but I think what Deger Ayata means goes further than this as:
"A device or computer equipped with an eye tracker “knows” what a user is looking at."
For most practical applications of eye-tracking for human-machine interactions, you also need to know what the gaze was looking at in the real scene to use to interact with the computer (like selecting the gazed object, etc.). Just knowing, even "exactly", the position and movement of the eyes, is not enough if there is no link with the outside world.
