What are the species presently using as model species in research ?

From the very beginning, (I don't know when ) number of vertebrates or other species were used as model species. Now a days fish species are taking the place. What are the reasons behind this? In other species as a model species what are the advantages or disadvantages? Advanced thanks and regards to the scholars.
