Plant cells contain high concentration of cytosolic K+ ions. Why does potassium influx channel occur? During somata opening, protons are transported out in replacement with K+ influx in order to keep electroneutrality.
As K+ influx is increased, the intracellular osmolarity will rise and then water may thereafter come in if intracellular K+ continues to increase. Subsequently, somata opening may ensue.
Sorry! I did not know that. However, if plant cells were obtained from plant root, one might use voltage-clamp method to measure K+ currents in those cells.
