The fresh water added while oil desalting is called wash water. Its role is to reach saline droplets and dissolve fine salts cristals (emulsion).

The water aded could be fresh (or with minimum of salts) between 5 to 11% of oil volume. but mixing rate (Valve of pressure drop) from 0.5 to 1.5 bars.
