Since kerosene is cheaper than diesel and diesel engines are more tolerate for fuel formulation, would it be possible to increase the usage of kerosene in CI engines? I understood 'Winter Diesel' has some K1 in it to decrease the cloud point. Is the bad lubricity the major concern limiting its use in diesel?
According to my informations, kerosene is more expensive tha diesel. Quite logical, given the tighter specs of kerosene and the fact that the fraction of crude allowing to separate kerosene without cracking is comparatively small. Maybe you are comparing kerosene prices with low tax rates vs.diesel with higher taxes?
Lubrication might be an aspect. More important is the lower flash point of kerosene - leading to a premature ignition of the fuel. This could be controlled using some knock sensor, but currently is of no special interest, given the pricing of the fuels.
