I've been looking into the spatial literature over the past few weeks and I'm having a difficult time answering this question. I'm primarly interested in re-vegetation efforts for design of Alternative, ET, Cover systems for waste treatment. It seems like, in a closure setting, LAI from MODIS on a 1 km x 1 km scale should provide a good proxy for ground measurements, if unavailable. Necessarily, more philosophical questions abound for the validity of a "static" vegetated system; however, I am primarily concerned with the validity of using MODIS data with minimal data screening and processing.

Can MODIS LAI products be used with minimal calibration as opposed to looking up values in texts or other locations?
