I am working on joining two thin sheets of CP Titanium and SS 304 by TIG welding and for this purpose, I need to go thru phase diagram to study about different compound made during their interaction so that i can decide inter-layers between two.
During the explosive welding process of titanium and steel plates also TiFe and TiFe2 intermetallic compounds are created and it has been recently concluded that they are possible places of fatigue crack initiation since the hardness of such compounds is very high - several times higher than the applied steel. It is supposed that the presence of intermetallic compounds decreases fatigue life. Unfortunately, I cannot say anything about other mechanical properties.
@Anbazhagan Varathan Sir, my primary focus is to stop the formation of intermetallic compounds which is difficult in fusion welding of titanium and SS without using interlayers. So, I am working on two interlayers of which will be compatible with each other and with these two base metals individually.
