The below phases can be noticed in copper-zinc phase diagram:
1- α (alpha) phase: solid solution of zinc in copper (FCC) structure, maximum solubility of about 39 wt% Zn at 470°C.
2- β (beta) phase: solid solution of copper in zinc (BCC) structure, solubility 39-50 wt% Zn at 275-390°C range.
3- γ (gamma) or brass phase: solid solution of copper in zinc (HCP) structure, solubility 50-57 wt% Zn below 275°C.
4- δ (delta) or duplex phase of α and β phases at compositions ranging from 33-39 wt% Zn.
5- ε (epsilon) phase: a stoichiometric composition of CuZn5, exhibits a hexagonal structure around 83 wt% Zn and occurs at lower temperatures.
