from ancient times, for example from Roman Empire, was used straw as fiber enforcement because the natural resin that cover this plant is alkaline resistant and very low about water absorption.
Actually , specially for green building , are used with very good results : hemp fibers , bamboo fibers, rice straw , hemp shive, coconut fibers and chopped fir wood.
Are also largely used basalt fibers but these are less alkaline resistant so could happen that during time , inside mortars or concretes where have been used they are almost completely dissolved by pH of hydration process. Usually can be protected using thin layer of protective film , like already quite normally used for glass fibers.
