Hello, I wish to know how to break down a full report into a lesser number of pages that will fit publishing rather than publishing the full report of about 200 pages.
So, what topics or main headings do I need to consider and how do I go about doing it?

so you first determine the major ideas in your article, because an article is not necessarity the "summary" of your report.
1/you need to be very selective because you have a limited space.
2/ you pick up the important ideas in your experiments for example, here you have to delete the long process of data collection and selection. you simply mention what data you worked on and your primary sources, and if you edited it with some program(s) you mention this.
3/ in the results, you briefly mention how you analyzed your data and interpreted it (programs/Excel/SPSS or anything else) without necessarily listing details on how you did it because it will take much space.
so depending on the subject of your article and on what you need to focus, you may find yourself dropping parts of your report. you also drop a big part of the abstract/introduction, and write a short conclusion compared to the one that you wrote in your report. these are the major ideas in writing an article based on a report that I concluded from my first experience. Valentine Ojong Opa , first decide the journal which you wish to send your report to and go through their publishing guidelines, then quickly read the pages which you wrote and try to highlight the most powerful statements in each section and copy these to a second document, that's what I do.
One can organize it into the introduction, methods, results, conclusions and recommendations sections.
If we have to squeeze or condense large reading material into fewer pages...we have to first see the perspective on which we have to work...if book..or paper or article or leaflet..then according to it we can shape the material...if paper you have to follow the guidelines of journal to which you have to send...paper or article or leaflet wants crispness of research and rest is like that....
