It's obvious that AI are recently attracting ELT research like it does with many other fields of knowledge. However, as a linguist with no knowledge in computer studies, what kind of research might help add new value to the existing literature.
One latest trend in ELT is integrating AI and digital tools in language classrooms, while a key gap remains the lack of context-sensitive pedagogies for diverse learner needs.
Current trends in ELT include the integration of AI for personalization purposes, the adoption of global English, a strong focus on 21st-century skills (critical thinking, global citizenship), and technology-enhanced learning to achieve real-world outcomes. Significant gaps remain in linking research to classroom practices(especially in teacher training), localizing curricula for multilingual contexts, and addressing resource constraints in developing countries such as Yemen, where misalignment between curricula, examinations, and teacher and student motivation poses significant challenges.
Vidhya Lakshmi C N I appreciate the contribution. I know that sustainability is the trend of scientific research but had no idea that it could be integrated into language teaching. I just wonder if it can be linked into the enhancement of language skills.
Thank you Waddah Saleh Mohammed Mahwari . I think the environment of language learning in our two countries (Iraq & Yemen) share many similarities. I appreciate your contribution.
