There is a reason for seasonal variations in agricultural crops and the natural cycles have their own integration of nutrient recycling as well. 'Rotation of Crops' is one such step to regain depleted nutrients through appropriate legumes. Controlled environment systems look exciting for experimental purposes but, satisfying the growing food requirement through this option in my opinion is not a wise approach.
Vertical farming plays a key role in sustainable agriculture by enabling more efficient use of resources, reducing the need for large areas of arable land, and minimizing the impact on ecosystems. Technological innovations such as LED lighting, automated irrigation systems, precise control of temperature and humidity, and the use of hydroponics and aeroponics enable year-round food production in controlled environments. These systems use much less water than traditional farming and can be set up in urban areas, reducing the need for food transportation. Additionally, vertical farms reduce the use of pesticides, making food production healthier and more environmentally friendly. Although the technology has high initial costs, its development and wider adoption could contribute to more sustainable and efficient agriculture in the future.
