From terminal side, how about challenges having antennas that are insensitive to user? Since MIMO is the key technology, it is not worth to increase the number of antennas (thus increase the complexity) that not performing well COMPARED TO a single antenna structure.

In 5G wireless communication, MIMO at 60GHz communication will come into handy. It will also require adaptive beamforming at such a high frequencies to manage and limit the interference. Access relays on moving vehicles, in particular mass transit vehicles (trains, buses, aircraft ..) is definitely a challenge when it comes to high data rates
The path losses for 5G signals at the high frequencies will be very high. Designing receivers with sufficient sensitivity is definitely going to be a challenge. One advantage however is that for high frequency signals, antenna spacing for MIMO applications does not have to be as large as for the current 3GPP bands. For this reason, design for MIMO antennas in both the transmitters and the handsets should be easier.
5G will have same set of problem as 4G. Wideband high power amplifier as an separate chip has to be used. Current research on antenna will be applicable. Offcourse designing antenna which is insensitive to user is must.
Channel capacity is one issue that needs to be addressed in limited bandwidth condition by increasing the number of elements in MIMO antenna system by adhering to the co-relation coefficient.

Cross-layer optimization. Antenna researchers will need to know about the RF frontends, circuits and network, too. At the end of the day, the optimization will be for maximum capacity adopting spatial, polarization and other diversity rather than classical antenna optimization.
