Reference Model. The generic IoT System include four main components: Physical World, Communication, Computation and Actuation.
The IoT stands for "Internet of Thing " : that means " the network of physical devices, vechiles, home appliances and other items embedded with electronics, software, sensors actuators and connectivity which enables these things to connect and exchange data creating opprtunities for more direct integration of the physical world into computer-based systems, resulting in efficiency improvements, economic benefits and reduced human exertions.

IoT (Internet of Things) can just be explained by the fact we want to extend the Internet we know to objects and things around us. As we know, these things present many constraints (for example autonomy, energy consumption, ...) and are so very different from the computer. That's why we have to improve and to adapt all the existing mechanisms already used in Internet for that.
