I need help regarding the sensor setup on pipeline to measure the density of flowing slurry liquid. If I attached a transducer perpendicular to the pipeline, are there any effect to the received signal (considered laminar flow)?
Some companies that manufactured slurry density meter have an angled setup for the sensor on their device. What will be the best setup for accuracy in my application if I just need to measure the density?
To measure density you need to execute a speed of sound measurement. Speed of sound changes with flow and you should measure the SoS upstream and downstream, that is why the use of an angled setup (look for conventional ultrasonic flowmeter setup). If the flow is laminar like you say, this should be the only precaution you should take.

Because the sound velocity in your fluid exceeds 1000m/s, and the transport velocity amounts to few m/s (laminar conditions), you will not find a measurable influence of the fluid flow. What will really matter is the possible presence of gas bubbles, even microscopic! Your flow must be exempt of cavitation and the oil properly degassed, otherwise an ultrasonic probe will be dramatically affected (sound waves will be slowered and diffracted by the bubbles) even if the gas fraction is not exceeding 1E-3 (it depends of course of the frequency of your probe)
