My problem is even I increased the sulphonated monomer ratio, the polymer was insoluble in organic solvents like NMP,DMAc. When I looked for commercial one, it looks like a fiber. That is why I was thinking maybe this fine powder is an indication of incomplete reaction. Is there any idea about theh reason of insoluble polymer?
The reason is that the fine powder must be incompatible with the solvent, i.e. the polar behavior of both solute and solvent must be opposite to each other.
Hi, Degree of sulfonation is important in SPEEK synthesis. If you are getting powder that means it has very low molecular weight which means reaction is not completed or your monomer or other reactants are not pure enough. you can check it by HPLC. Another way to have granular or fiber like SPEEK try to reprecipitate it in cold conditions.
