I am ph.D scholar pursuing my ph.D in performance analysis of wireless fading channels. As we know, that every performance metrics for fading channel is defined in terms of integration, where averaging of the additive white Gaussian noise metric is to be performed over fading channels. Lot of research work carried out in this context and every one is proposing a closed-form solution for the given metrics. But it is still not clear to me, why we have to derive the closed-form solution of the metrics?

what is the need of closed-form solutions?

How these mathematics be applied in designing the communication systems?
