Hello Mostafa,

do you refer to the loss of ignition (LOI)? This value contains not only the loss of structural water but also the brakdown of carbonates and gypsum, depending on the temperature you chose during the experiment.

The difference of the measured values may be due to different mineralogical compositions (e.g. different minerals) or simply due to normal experimental scattering (e.g. sampling variances, accuracy of measurement methods).

So be sure that you can rule out mistakes in your experimental design.

Geologically speaking, and assuming that there is no analytical bias or error, such difference could be due to the different degree of alteration and wheathering of the original oceanic crust material. More hydration of the original Ca-Mg Silicate, more water in the resulting Serpentinite rock (not mineral).

I agree with Dr. Bencini, and I would simply tell that one ophiolite is more serpentinized (higher LOI) than the second one.
