Interesting question, thanks. Inclusion of nanocellulose in adhesives to improve internal bonding of glued particulate wood-based composites (known as particle boards) have shown effct. Other nanomaterial inclusions are difficult / not feasable at the moment.
Rupert,Thanks for your comment. With respect to your mention of "other nanomaterial," are you referring to more conventional nanofillers such as nanosilica? Which inclusions might be worth using if feasible? What are the barriers to feasibility? Cost? Surface incompatibility?
from my viewpoint, one major issue is that it is still not widely enough known (nor widely deeply enough studied) that nanocomposites thermodynamically are non-equilibrium systems.
(you can find quite a bit about this in my RG pages, and I would have loved if my publications would have triggered a broader discussion and more work in addition to my work, whether together with me or separately or in compeition with me, I don't care, but it didn't happen so far)
