People concerned with the emission of CO2 will consume less meat. The same people will also buy agriculture products produced in the vicinity (same country/Continent). Agriculture of proximity has a great future and in some cases vertical agriculture will be possible to develop close to the large cities.

Reduction in meat consumption and other more responsible consumption choices will definitely contribute towards responsible agricultural production and this can be in form of organic farmers or climate smart . However all these factors should be considered together with increased productivity especially in Africa where yield are still very low such that less GHG emissions through transportation of inputs and outputs

2 years ago I was a Sustainable Development conference where there were lots of speakers addressing community food security.  It turns out that while crop productivity varies, people grow what they think is enough food and no more.  In the absence of a market for the surplus, there is very little reason to grow that little bit more, and thus the people become very vulnerable to famine.  By putting a significant amount of production immediately to animal feed and biofuels, the West is ensuring the market is stable, and that production remains high (while meat and biofuels may fluctuate wildly in both supply and price).  Economic growth is tightly tied to food production, so that high agricultural production is vitally important to maintain liberal democracies.

We're seeing a nearly linear increase in calories per acre (now something like 14 million/crop cycle/acre for cereals), but at the same time we're seeing a significant decline in topsoil quality and quantity (something like 6 GT  lost per year around the world).  Maybe 25% of CO2 in the atmosphere has come from land-use changes = loss of soil.  And soil productivity is governed by the carbon content of the top 6".  So as the topsoil declines, there will be no indicator until the last 6", and then it will be a short and intense ride to the bottom.

Conventional Agriculture is not likely going to be able to feed the whole planet by 2023.  Even China's dream of railroads to Europe and Africa won't solve that problem (although it may provide a steady market and encourage increases in production in Africa).  Factory farming won't be producing enough usable calories per acre for the number of productive acres to feed the population of the world.

The 'alternative agriculture' will come in a wide variety of options.  Every community will end up finding a potentially different solution - a means of growing more calories on the same land in changing conditions.  It is quite possible it means more labour per unit of food, which means ultimately a higher price in units of human time.  That will reduce unemployment and slow economic growth.

So to answer your question, the changes are myriad and extensive.  Every community and every region has the potential of having a different answer to the question.  Your described scenario will be true for some, and not for others.

In Brazil, the green revolution started 40 year ago and changes will be implemented in our grain, cereal and oilseed (soybean) crop production systems due the intensification, in terms of energy and the necessary capital to develop a commercial farm in our savanna soils. The natural resource base of our Cerrado Biome has an agricultural production structure with many limitations and many are the challenges to be studied following a holistic (at least three criteria such as – energy, carbon sequestration and production costs -) view.

I dont think there are changes, but we reclaim to distrebute new technologies which find it the labs, firms and agricultural resrearch centers to be available.

The forecasted change will appear in the form of eco friendly agriculture production which should be capable to manage the natural resources of farming communities at village level to improve their welfare, safeguard biodiversity to provide ecosystem services and sustainable farming systems.

According to FAO projection, by 2050, the world need 60 percent more food than is available today. In my view, in order to feed growing population, sustainable intensification of agriculture is of utmost priority. In most of the Asian and African countries, arable land is limited, hence the additional production will have to come from existing land through sustainable agricultural intensification. It not only increases food production from existing farmland, but also reduces the averse environment impact.

In order to have food security, a community has to be able to generate a small surplus in a time of shortage, which means growing significantly more in a good year than they need. The only way that will happen is to have a market for the surplus - in the industrialized West, that means giving away food aid, using ethanol, and producing animal feed. The price of grains remains fairly constant, but the price of meat fluctuates wildly - a by-product of the cheap-food policy.

Any 'sustainable agriculture' approach has to find a way to close the nutrient cycle, cope with increasing demand, address soil loss and soil decarbonation, and ultimately find ways to distribute food more equitably.

If the East and South are to increase production significantly, it will be with very non-conventional approaches that may (or may not) resemble traditional approaches. In particular, it has to be done with much less energy consumption per calorie of food than the West uses, without reducing the calories per area in the food.

Off the top of my head..we can't stop or decrease agricultural activities..the agricultural sector is responsible for feeding near 10 pillion people by 2050. Thus, it is illogic to expect lower activities. However, to meet the environment sustainability, .the effeciency of this sector should be more effective. This could be through different strategies such as applying smart and precision agriculture, creating different integrated farming systems, innovating eco friendly production approaches, and may be genetic editing to create more modified plants and animals..

I think there are so many threats in Agriculture Production owing to change the structure of agricultural production system in future or even after 5 decades..climatic changes, pollution, decline in water level, ice melting resulting in rise in sea level, soil erosion and degradation, deforestation, rise in population pressure, shrinkage in Agriculture land holding, deterioration of the the quality of ecosystem hence loss in sustainability cause many more problems in agriculture and will be influencing global Agriculture Production trends in future for sure...to meet the demand of ever increasing population, in shrinking land, there will be more challenging situation to produce higher yield, increased sustainability, profitability and productivity as well..there will be utilisation of vertical farming options, climate smart Agricultural practises as well as other practices so that sustainability level as well as quality of farm produce may not be disturbed while producing higher yield with higher benefits (monetary)
