I want to set up an expierment to find the relation between lux (luminous flux per unit area) and irradiance (power per unit area)
i got two sensor to measure each simultaneously.
- Power sensor cover infrared plus visible light and provide one power value.
- lux sensor will cover both too, but provides lux result for infared and visible light seperately.
My first question is:
can i simply say that the total lux equals the submission of the two element (infrared and visible) ? And then find the mathmatical relation between total lux and total power?
Second question is:
for how many hour the experiment should last? And how it will effect the result?

The lux values are weighted according to the visible response curve of the eye. Any truly well-calibrated lux meter will not respond beyond the visibility wavelength boundaries of the human eye. Thus it makes no sense to claim measuring lux-values within the near infrared... Avise to google for the freely downloadable light measurement handbook by Alex Ryer. Once you read that, many things will be more clear to you.
The IR part in lux measurements is negligible.
The relationship you try to obtain is referred to as 'luminous efficacy' and there is good literature about it. It is a function that varies depending on atmospheric conditions, etc., so you would need to conduct measurements for many months.
