I'm going to be teaching an online course to minors using game-based learning strategies. I wasn't to make sure I consider ethics considering students (likely their parents) will be paying to take part in the course. They will have the choice to participate or not participate in the research and all other standard research protections such as anonymity in publishing, etc.
Is it ok that they are paying in versus being paid? Does the course to be free in order to be ethically appropriate?
Are there other ethical ideas I need to consider?

There is no duty to pay for their participation, as long as you clarify in the informed consent that they will not receive compensation for participating. There is nothing wrong about they paying for the course, because theiy are paying for it, they are not paying to participate in the investigation, and that will be your study cohort "families who are enrolled in a private course" (and, therefore, paying for it). And, since it involves minors, of course you need parental consent.
I agree with Maria! Just make sure you get parental consent AND student assent, as they are minors.
It is important to outline your approach at the outset i.e. you intend to conduct an online course for minor students payable by their parents/guardians. In addition, and concurrently, you propose a study of your teaching methodology based upon an optional parent/student approval to participate.
The meaning of the question is too unclear. Perhaps more details about the design and costs would help. For example, will some students be able to decline and still be in the course? If so, will those who decline to participate be treated any differently from those who agree? What is the topic? If students are unhappy with the process will any of the research aspects be likely to be responsible? If so, there is bound to be some resentment about paying for something that is offensive. Paying may make it less likely for students to drop out. The age of the students is another factor. How you get access to the students is another: are they a “captive” population—referred to the course because of disabilities or behavioral problems. Will there be a control group? How many students do you want in the design? What is the hypothesis? Without answers to these, I would not know what other questions to raise. For example, the questions about privacy cannot be sharpened without answers to the ones I listed.

Good question. It is all the more obligatory on your part to follow ethics and offer right product or quality learning if students are paying for the course. You need to convince your students as well as their parents that any unethical act on their part would get them poor or harmful learning.

Quite so. In the first instance, in a fee paying course the relation is 'juridique' although more specifically, the obligation lies with the teacher to teach.
However, our researcher proposes an adjunct methodological study and is seeking guidance for it as an optional part of his overall project. In this second instance the relationship differs from the first as it involves student participation, actively working toward the intended outcome. This is where ethical approval is required ensuring all the relevant issues are addressed before the project can continue.
