The high temperature of the hydraulic system causes a decrease in efficiency and an increase in the wear of components. On the other hand, nano-fluids have been used in many fields to improve heat transfer, but in hydraulic systems, does the addition of nano-materials cause an increase in the wear of components or filters?
Hydraulic systems gets huge heat due to its fluid friction as well as the friction between the fluid and wall of actuator and tubes. adding a nano material in a uniformly dispersed way could reduce the fluid friction and fluid/wall friction and subsequently reduce the heat generation and increase the efficiency.
Generally the nano materials are having high surface to weight ratio and having very high thermal conductivity. This property will also enhance the hydraulic oil to dissipate the heat easily compared to the rate of dissipation without nano material.
But dispersing the nano material in the conventional hydraulic oils used in the industries now a days is a big challenge without compensating its properties which are essentially required for hydraulic operation purpose.
Yes , you can use some type of nanoparticles in hydrolic oil to enhance the heat transfer
