CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) - is a system that connects both the consumers and the producers and enjoys the same risk-sharing attributes. It is more based on a socio-economic model and not specifically on economics, however, food security is a very prominent aspect in economics. CSA is a rather interesting topic and very applicable to modern economics.
It is well known that food security is seen as a situation where all people at all times have the physical, social and economic access to sufficient, safe and nutritious food that satisfies their nutritional preferences and needs for an active and healthy life. Food insecurity is present when people do not have access to food as defined above.
There is food security when:
- availability of food, which means that there must be systems for production, distribution and marketing;
- purchasing power, allocation and cultural and personal preferences;
- safety and hygiene, levels of absorption by the body, quality and nutritional value;
- stability of food security over time.
The lack of these elements or the disruption of the links between them leads to food insecurity and a food crisis.
