Is there any better option instead of using DSTATCOM with renewable energy resources for reactive power supply (for voltage stablity ) and minimization of harmonics?
There are several other external devices that can be used for reactive power injection, voltage stability and harmonics minimization. These devices include DVR, FCL, supercapacitors and so on. However, all these come at a significant cost. Consequently we can modify the control strategies of our inverter based DER especially to make them effectively perform the functions of these external devices while ensuring power delivery simultaneously. Several simulations and testings have been performed to validate this
yes there is a better opt for maximizing the stability of an electrical system than using the DSTATCOM and a renewable. I think that the DSTATCOM alone helps to strengthen the stability of an electrical system. In some distribution systems, instead of using a single DSTATCOM, one can use two to three taking care of optimally choosing the impacting installation nodes. however, the renewable that improves transient and static stablity dramatically is the wind turbine. unfortunately its very strict operating conditions (wind speed greater than 15 m / s) do not allow to install everywhere.
